Featured here is the renown Strokkur Geyser, near the town of Geysir, Iceland. The temperature of the hot springs responsible for this geyser's eruptions is between 170 - 210 degrees F (80 - 100 C) but can reach 460 degrees F (240 C) well below the surface. Strokkur erupts every 5 to 10 minutes, day and night, throwing heated water 60 to 100 feet (20 to 30 meters) into the air.

Starting initially as a blue bulge of water, pictured above, and with a gurgling sound as it heats up, when it erupts the rushing noise is truly distinctive. Photo taken on November 10, 2023.
